The opening of Violaine Lochu’s first solo exhibition, Hypnorama, will feature The Confusion of the Choir, a performance for four female singers, as well as the presentation of the Johtolat edition (with a preface co-written by anthropologist Nastassja Martin and philosopher Bruno Latour and graphic design by Christophe Hamery).

The Confusion of the Choir is a vocal performance performed by four female singers and lasting roughly 20 minutes. As is the case in most exhibition spaces, notably because of the strong reverberation, the acoustics of the Chanot Contemporary Art Center are not very well suited to musical or sound pieces. Violaine Lochu has chosen to play with this “defect” by writing a performance for four female singers that amplifies its characteristics and probes the limits of vocal intelligibility.
