Eva Taulois’ suggestions begin with textures, colours and an overall atmosphere. For her solo exhibition at the CACC, which will open at the turn of autumn, Eva Taulois prolongs the feeling of summer by applying its pictorial gesture to deckchairs and parasols, which she then enhances with sound pieces, photographs and sculptures.

Whether it be song lyrics or the words of an American writer, different forms of poetic writing feed Eva Taulois’ imagination and approach. “Neither in the robins nor in the buffalo”: the titles she chooses have an evocative power, much like this sibylline fragment borrowed from Toni Morrison, which becomes a part of the fiction she builds in her exhibitions.

This enigmatic title brings together what we consider to be opposing dynamics, uniting two animal species we could never imagine meeting, which immediately suggests the direction of Eva Taulois’ work. The sentence’s musicality evokes the bursts the artist inserts into the dialogues between her works. The bird’s silky feathers and the cattle’s fleece remind us of the precision with which the artist chooses her materials and textures : plaster, rhinestone fabric, lycra, resin, velvet, lacquer, foam… Both the aerial agility and firmness of these animals to the ground echo the laws of weightlessness governing the artist’s works. She often plays with the weight of materials in order to determine their form, with a penchant for what falls, slouches or rises.

At the Centre d’art contemporain Chanot, Eva Taulois has begun a vast project in which she explores collaborative work forms and continues to push the boundaries between art and life.

With great attention for the visitor, Eva Taulois has created an exhibition with a warm, luminous and relaxing atmosphere. This summer ambiance can be glimpsed on the canvas of its parasols, which are covered with bright colours and reveal the artist’s interest in popular culture as well as her everyday approach to art. For this exhibition, Eva Taulois has added a new dimension to her creative process by inviting several people, skilled in other areas, to design the pieces alongside her during a collective summer residency at the CACC. By exploring research duration, memories of time spent working, and the fruitful encounters between the visual arts and other art forms, the project manages to weave together a constellation of disciplines into a whole.
